NAMIB DESERT SAFARI
Day 1
Windhoek Airport Shuttle service will collect you from Windhoek International Airport (Hosea Kutako) to your first overnight in Windhoek. Meet fellow riders and your host and guide for pre-ride briefing and dinner.
Day 2
Let the exciting journey into the desert (approximately 4,5 hours) begin! Lunch in camp, followed by an afternoon visit to Sossusvlei area. Returning to camp at sunset.
Day 3 & 4
Off we go! Negotiating the foothills and grassy plains on the edge of the Namib dune. Our first riding day starts amid the encircling Naukluft (narrow gorge) mountains - a short ride to lunch to get acquainted with your horse, the terrain, and the delightful companionship. Ride in the afternoon.
Day 5 & 6
Through the Canyons - we cross two river canyons on our way to the Namib plains - the Gaub and the much larger Kuiseb which forms a dramatic end to the 400-km long Namib Sand Sea. Following the tracks of the mountain zebra which crisscross the steep sides of the canyon, a technical descent requires some walking/scrambling into and out of the Canyon. Come fit!
Day 7 to 10
The Namib Plains to the Swakop River - now the pace quickens, a lot! Good going affords some fast-paced riding on the wide grassy plains on the Namib. Chances to see Giraffe, Springbok and Oryx. Riding through the Swakop river basin before heading to the sea with the last canter along the beach - the end of a truly epic adventure.
Day 11
Early breakfast and transfer to Windhoek (just over 5-hour commute) arriving in time for departure flights from Windhoek International Airport after 15:00.
DAMARA ELEPHANT SAFARI
Day 1
Windhoek Airport Shuttle service will collect you from Windhoek International Airport (Hosea Kutako) to your first overnight in Windhoek. Meet fellow riders and your host and guide for pre-ride briefing and dinner.
Day 2
After an early breakfast, we journey north (about a 7-hour transfer including a lunch stop en-route) through some spectacular Namibian landscapes to our camp at Twyfelfontein (Doubtful spring) with a visit to the world heritage site rock engravings at Twyfelfontein itself.
Day 3 & 4
With the rising sun at our backs, we begin our westward journey to the distant Atlantic. In these ephemeral river systems, the cycles of rainfall dictate the seasonal movement of game. We can encounter Elephants, Rhino, Oryx, Springbok, and other desert-adapted animals.
Day 5 & 6
We will be riding along the Aba Huab and Huab rivers, enjoying the spectacular view of Damaraland's dramatic geology. Huge glacial valleys and impressive Tableland mountains present a well-preserved snapshot of a land of great antiquity. Now the pace quickens considerably!
Day 7 to 10
The endless plains around the Brandberg Mountain allow for some fast-paced riding as we approach the dramatic Messum Caldera - the eroded remains of a massive collapsed volcano. Our last ride takes us to the ocean - the spectacularly formidable Skeleton Coast! Overnight in the small coastal town of Henties Bay in a private house with a spectacular view over the Atlantic Ocean. Our last meal together is freshly caught Atlantic fish done to perfection over the coals.
Day 11
Early breakfast and transfer to Windhoek (just over 5-hour commute) arriving in time for departure flights from Windhoek International Airport after 15:00.
WILD HORSES
Day 1
Windhoek Airport Shuttle service will collect you from Windhoek International Airport (Hosea Kutako) to your first overnight in Windhoek. Meet fellow riders and your host and guide for pre-ride briefing and dinner.
Day 2
Following breakfast, you will drive to Wolwedans Private Reserve (approximately 2.5 hours). After settling in, going for a little explore, meetingyour crew and horses, you will enjoy your first spectacular sundowners as the sky turnsfrom red and orange to reveal stunning views of the Milky Way overhead.
Day 3 & 8
Today you will set out across the wide open country calling out for some faster
paced riding and the chance to release your inner cowboy! You will have spontaneous lunch spots, enjoyed under a shady tree or somewhere particularly picturesque. This is trackless desert, no roads, no paths, only animal tracks - so better come fit for this! Being desert pioneers, this section of the route may vary depending on weather conditions or other circumstances but there is no doubt each day will be an adventure and one
to remember.
Day 9 & 10
After our last night camp in Geistershlucht (Ghost valley), we visit the waterhole of the wild horses of the Namib for a sundowner. On our last day we stop by the coastal town of Luderitz, visiting the extraordinary 'ghost town' of Kolmanskop - the town the desert is 'reclaiming.
Day 11
Early breakfast and transfer to Windhoek (just over 5-hour commute) arriving in time for departure flights from Windhoek International Airport after 17:00.
SKELETON COAST

The Rider
As we can spend up to 6 hours in the saddle a day you will need to be confident and riding fit enough to keep up with the group; capable of riding at all paces over rough terrain; rising at the trot and controlling you horse at the canter. You may be required to gallop at times. Regrettably we are not able to accommodate novice or beginner riders. We have a strict maximum weight limit of 85kg. We reserve the right to rest horses during a safari if you are not able to sustain an independent seat, or if your weight and riding ability do not fall within the minimum required. On booking, we will require details of your riding experience, plus your age, weight and height, so that we can match you to suitable horses.
Camp Life and Riding
Days begin at sunrise with the aroma of freshly brewed 100% Arabica coffee wafting through camp. After a hearty breakfast we start riding around 8am for 4 - 5 hours. Lunch breaks are 1 - 2 hours, followed by another 2 - 3 hours riding in the afternoon. We ride 20 - 60 km per day at all places and over rough terrain - some very long canters. We use custom made saddles, specially designed for long trails - a hybrid between a western and an english saddle.
Horses
The horses that you are going to ride on this safari are thoroughbreds, quarter horses, thoroughbred crosses, arabs and arab crosses. All of them have excellent stamina as a result. They are well schooled. They are therefore responsive, tough and fit. You will be pleasantly surprised.
